Close the suspicious page
If the destination looks suspicious, close the browser tab or window. Do not click additional buttons, links, pop-ups, or download prompts on the page.
Do not enter personal information
Never enter passwords, verification codes, payment details, or other sensitive information into a website you do not trust.
Be especially cautious if a page unexpectedly asks you to sign in, verify an account, make a payment, or provide personal information.
If you entered a password
If you entered a password on a suspicious website, change the password directly through the official website or application for that account.
- Use a new and unique password.
- Do not reuse the password you entered on the suspicious website.
- Enable additional account security options when available.
- Review the account for unfamiliar activity.
If you use the same password on other services, consider changing it on those services as well.
If you entered payment information
If you provided card, bank, or other payment information to a suspicious website, contact the relevant bank or payment provider using its official website, application, or phone number.
Follow the provider's instructions for securing the affected payment method and reviewing unfamiliar transactions.
If something was downloaded
If the suspicious page downloaded a file, avoid opening or running it unless you are certain it is safe.
If you already opened a suspicious file, use your device's trusted security software to check the device and follow any security warnings you receive.
