Why do I see clicks but no conversions?

Last updated on September 20, 2026

If Azaz Statistics shows clicks on your short link but your destination analytics or advertising platform shows few or no conversions, this does not necessarily mean that something is wrong with your Azaz link.

A click and a conversion measure different actions.

What is a click?

A click generally represents activity associated with someone or something opening your Azaz short link.

The visitor is then redirected toward the destination configured for that short URL.

What is a conversion?

A conversion is normally an action defined and measured by the website, advertising platform, or analytics system you use at the destination.

Depending on your website, a conversion could be:

  • Completing a purchase
  • Submitting a form
  • Creating an account
  • Booking an appointment
  • Downloading something
  • Completing another action you have configured as a conversion

Azaz short-link clicks and conversions reported by another platform are therefore different measurements.

A visitor can click without converting

Someone may open your link and decide not to complete the action you want.

For example, a visitor might:

  • Open the destination and leave immediately
  • Browse the page without purchasing
  • Decide not to submit a form
  • Return later using another method
  • Close the page before it fully loads

The short-link activity can therefore exist even when no conversion occurs.

Check that the destination is correct

Open My Links and confirm that the affected short link points to the intended destination.

Check that:

  • The destination URL is correct.
  • The page loads successfully.
  • There are no unexpected redirects.
  • The intended form, checkout, or action works.
  • The page works correctly on mobile devices.

Test the complete conversion process

Do not test only whether the short link opens.

Follow the same path a visitor would use and verify that the complete process works from beginning to end.

For example, if your conversion is a form submission, confirm that the form can actually be completed successfully.

Check your destination analytics configuration

Conversion tracking is generally configured in the analytics, advertising, or other tracking platform associated with your destination.

If clicks appear but conversions do not, verify that the destination's tracking configuration is working correctly.

Depending on the service you use, this may include checking:

  • Whether the tracking code is installed
  • Whether the correct conversion event is configured
  • Whether the event fires after the intended action
  • Whether the correct website or property is being measured
  • Whether your reporting date range is correct

Azaz does not define your destination conversion

The meaning of a conversion depends on the destination service and the tracking configuration you have chosen.

A click recorded for an Azaz short link does not automatically create a conversion in Google Analytics, an advertising platform, or another third-party analytics system.

Tracking scripts may not always load

Destination analytics normally depend on code loading in the visitor's browser.

Some visits may not be measured by that tracking system because of factors such as:

  • Ad blockers
  • Browser privacy protections
  • Consent settings
  • Disabled JavaScript
  • Network interruptions
  • The visitor leaving before tracking finishes loading
  • Tracking configuration problems

This can contribute to differences between short-link activity and destination analytics.

Check your conversion event

If your destination analytics records page views but not conversions, review how the conversion itself is configured.

For example, make sure the conversion is connected to the correct successful action rather than simply assuming that every destination visit should count as a conversion.

Check your UTM parameters

UTM parameters can help compatible destination analytics systems associate traffic with campaigns.

For example:

https://example.com/?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=launch

If you use UTM parameters, confirm that they remain correctly included in the destination URL configured for your short link.

UTM parameters help with attribution, but they do not create conversions by themselves.

Check your attribution settings

Advertising and analytics platforms can use their own rules to decide which campaign receives credit for a conversion.

A person could click your Azaz link and later return through another source before converting.

Depending on the external platform's attribution rules, the eventual conversion may not be credited to the source you expected.

Conversions can happen later

Not everyone converts immediately after clicking a link.

Someone may first visit your destination, leave, and return later before completing the desired action.

This can make click and conversion totals difficult to compare directly.

Repeated clicks do not mean repeated conversions

One person can open the same short link several times without completing a conversion.

For example, someone might open the link three times before making one purchase.

Those activities should not automatically be expected to produce three conversions.

Your own testing may create clicks

Opening your short URL yourself while testing may contribute to the activity shown for the link.

If you test a link many times without completing the configured conversion, you can naturally see clicks without corresponding conversions.

Automated activity may also access links

Some URL requests may come from automated systems rather than people who are potential customers or users.

Examples can include:

  • Security scanners
  • Link preview systems
  • Web crawlers
  • Other automated requests

Depending on how activity is detected and recorded, automated requests can also contribute to differences between clicks and conversions.

Check whether your page works well on mobile

Visitors opening links from social media, messages, and QR Codes may frequently be using mobile devices.

Test your destination on a phone and make sure important buttons, forms, and checkout steps are easy to use.

Check the page speed and user experience

A visitor may leave before converting if the destination is slow, confusing, unavailable, or difficult to use.

Test the page yourself and make sure the expected action is clear and functional.

Use separate links for different campaigns

If several campaigns use the same short URL, it can be harder to compare their performance separately.

Consider creating different links for important placements such as:

  • Email
  • Social media
  • QR codes
  • Bio Pages
  • Printed campaigns

Manage your campaign links from My Links and review available link activity through Azaz Statistics.

Do not compare clicks and conversions as if they are the same metric

A useful comparison requires understanding exactly what each platform is measuring.

Short-link clicks, destination page views, sessions, users, events, and conversions are different measurements and may legitimately show different totals.

Protect visitor privacy

Avoid putting sensitive personal information in short URLs, custom aliases, or UTM parameters.

For information about how Azaz handles information, review the Azaz Privacy Policy.

Use Azaz responsibly

All Azaz links and their destinations must comply with the Azaz Terms of Service.

If you encounter an Azaz link being used for phishing, malware, scams, or another harmful purpose, use the Report page.

If the short link works but a third-party conversion is not being recorded, also review the tracking configuration and documentation for the analytics or advertising platform that measures that conversion.
